The Fintech Foundation Launches to Expand Public Engagement in Financial Innovation
From DC Fintech Week to ‘Finchella’: Expanding Programming and Global Reach
Washington, D.C. – April 10, 2025 – The Fintech Foundation officially launches today to advance public understanding of fintech, financial innovation, and financial inclusion. As one of the first 501(c) nonprofits devoted to the study of, and policy engagement with, the impact of technological shifts within finance, the Foundation will serve as a hub for education, collaboration, and dialogue among regulators, industry leaders, academics, and the public.
“The greatest joy of being an educator is not just shaping young minds, but also creating institutions and experiences that serve the broader fintech and policy community,” said Georgetown University Law Professor Chris Brummer, the forum’s founder. “For years, I’ve had the privilege of convening regulators, industry leaders, and scholars to explore some of the most pressing challenges in finance, technology, and economic opportunity. The new Fintech Foundation allows us to take this work even further, providing more opportunities for scientific and policy engagement, education, and impact.”
At the heart of this effort is the launch of Finchella, a new and expanded experience that will build on lessons learned from DC Fintech Week. Finchella 2025, scheduled for October 14 – 17, 2025, will be free and open to the public, offering an expanded array of opportunities during the week and around the world to engage through small working groups, deep-dive sessions, and specialized venues for curated discussions. This year, the event will kick off at Amazon’s state-of-the-art HQ2 headquarters in Arlington, Virginia, marking a new milestone that grows from the legacy of DC Fintech Week.
“The demand for DC Fintech Week grew exponentially, with hundreds—sometimes thousands—of people on waitlists. It became clear that we needed to think bigger,” Brummer added. “The Fintech Foundation allows us to expand beyond just one week in October, fostering discussions year-round and bringing our unique blend of policy, technology, and innovation to an even broader audience—across geographies, industries, and backgrounds.”
The Fintech Foundation is committed to supporting the understanding of the technological advancements shaping policy, economies and markets, and ultimately, society. Through expanded programming, international collaborations, and digital content, the Foundation will continue to serve as a bridge between the private sector, government, academia, and civil society.
More details on upcoming initiatives and programming will be announced in the coming months.
